Beta Pinene is an aroma chemical that is found in many aromatic plants and fruits. It is present in very large quantities in some botanicals like pine and fir needle oils and in trace amounts in others like citrus peel oils. We consume this material in our daily lives as it is present in our environment and in so many botanicals that grow naturally. It is used either knowingly or unknowingly in many commercial goods products as an ingredient within an ingredient. Many beverages and confections incorporating flavoring may have beta pinene in the flavorings that have been selected. It can and has been isolated from many sources both natural and synthetic; however, much of the beta pinene available from the market is isolated and purified through vacuum distillation from a variety of essential oils including limes, lemons, and mint oils. It is know to be a bronchodilator and anti-inflammatory and could contribute to pain reduction in the body. Beta pinene can and will smell slightly different based on the source from which it is derived and purified, but almost always has a piney and mint-like aroma. Traditional use of certain essential oils rich in beta pinene (as well as other natural aroma chemicals) are used in variety of approved OTC medicines, natural “safe” household cleaners, FDA flavorings and a variety of perfumes, cosmetics, and many many more existing applications.
Extract Consultants first offered isolated individual terpenes to the market for both educational and creative purposes, as people want to replace the entourage effect that is lost through the extraction process.
